When the price goes up, there actually is not a capital gain because that is only a reflection that the dollar has lost value; the coin does not have more purchasing power unless you spend it right away before commodities catch up; but peoples saving take a big hit; so actually the Government should reimburse people, that hold fiat as stores of wealth, for the loses incurred when the price(in fiat dollars) of Gold and Silver goes up(doesn’t gain any purchasing power).
Actually this is true. I know of someone who buys gold and silver to invest in something and still keep 100% of the profits.

@fursatali The Vegas business owner was paying in American Gold Eagles and Silver Eagles, which have a face value that is only a fraction of the market value of the metal in the coins. The courts did not determine this to be illegal, to convict him he was railroaded by concocting a story that he wasn’t really paying in gold and silver.
Roni Deutch is lying about the business owner in Las Vegas. The finding was not that his paying his employees was illegal, they claimed that he was really paying them cash and claiming to pay in gold and silver. Paying in American Gold Eagles or Silver Eagles is technically legal, but the IRS will lie to get you convicted if you try it on a grand scale.

These guys are giving misinformation. I think by law, you only pay taxes when you deal using the Federal Reserve Note, which is the dollar bill. Since gold isn’t a federal reserve note, it can’t be taxable. Now.. when the employees go and encash it to dollars,, thats a different story.
They only paid taxes on the face value of the coins. Interesting. Eagles are legal tender currency. So if someone paid me 20 silver eagles, I only had to pay taxes on $20. Seems legal, though I guess someone is going to jail for it. She says “it’s an epidemic”. Hardly, though I wish I’d get paid in gold/silver, it’d save me surcharges and shipping. I wonder how much she gets paid to act animated and bitchy like that.
