I have a fabulous idea for a commercial and would love to submit it along with a storyboard and script. Do I?

Go for it! Just remember that companies normally have an entire advertising campaign, and your commercial might or might not fit the message they are trying to project.
Here’s the cheap, quick and easy way to protect yourself: submit the commercial, storyboard, and script to the company via mail (use return receipt service if you like). ALSO submit the same package to yourself (yes, mail it to yourself, with postage and everything). Then when you receive it, do not open it. Leave it sealed shut. This way you can prove you had the idea on or before the date of the postmark.
Good luck to you — you could land a job out of this if they love your idea!
